A Northland waterfront restaurant with a reputation for fresh flavours, local ingredients and relaxed dining is hiring a talented Sous Chef. Working with the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef leads the kitchen crew, protects standards and keeps service smooth behind the scenes, whatever the day brings.
Permanent or fixed-term terms apply, at a minimum of 30 hours a week. The restaurant prefers applicants with New Zealand work eligibility, but sponsorship may be on offer to a suitable chef.

Key Responsibilities
- Act for the Executive Chef while they are away
- Make sure each chef knows what the day requires
- Hold stock at the right quality and quantity
- Maintain timetables, leave rosters and attendance registers
- Make sure hygiene regulations are followed, and report and follow up maintenance problems
- Maintain smooth communication between restaurant and kitchen, check each dish for quality, quantity, presentation and temperature before it leaves, and run regular on-the-job training while treating all staff fairly and with courtesy
Requirements & Eligibility
- A positive attitude, good work ethic and sense of humour
- Solid experience in a busy, quality-focused kitchen, ready to step up or already working as a Sous Chef
- Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate a team, with excellent organisation and communication
- A genuine passion for great food and consistency, and a cool head when service gets busy
