A Brisbane café and bakery wants a full-time Baker. Its bread, pastries and cakes are made fresh on the premises each day, and it takes orders for custom celebration cakes as well. The job is permanent, 38 hours a week, in an established business that keeps growing.
The business welcomes overseas applicants and has visa sponsorship available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- Check raw materials for quality
- Weigh and measure ingredients for every run
- Prepare fillings, pastry, cake mixes, batters and doughs
- Portion, shape and mould dough and pastry for cakes, tarts, breads and rolls and other products
- Get trays and tins ready, load the ovens, and control their temperatures and baking times
- Glaze, ice and decorate cakes and pastries using cream, icing, fondant, chocolate and sugar paste
- Design and make custom and celebration cakes to customers' orders
- Price, package and present products in the café display, and plan production so the café is fully stocked when it opens
- Operate and clean mixers, sheeters, provers and other bakery equipment
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety
- Help develop recipes and new products, and coach and supervise junior bakers and kitchen staff
Requirements & Eligibility
- A more advanced qualification in culinary arts or patisserie, or a Certificate III or IV in Baking or Patisserie
- Work history of at least 1 year as a Pastrycook, Pastry Chef or Baker in a hotel kitchen, patisserie or commercial bakery
- Strong practical pastry skills
- Strong practical cake production and decorating skills
- Sound knowledge of hygiene and food safety practices
- Able to work early mornings and weekends, and to follow a rotating roster
- Experience with custom cake design and fondant work is desirable
- Team leadership or kitchen supervision experience is preferred
- Time in a customer-facing café or bakery is an advantage
