Looking for excavator work in New Zealand? A scrap metal recycling yard in Auckland is hiring a Heavy Excavator Operator who is experienced, safety-conscious and comfortable in a professional, high-efficiency processing environment. The role sits on the permanent yard crew and centres on a 30-tonne tracked excavator with shear, grapple and magnet attachments.
Hours are full-time, from a minimum of 30 a week and consistently up to 50. Potential AEWV sponsorship support is on offer to highly qualified international applicants who are onshore already or ready to move.

Key Responsibilities
- Cut up car bodies, machinery and heavy steel sections with the hydraulic shear
- Sort metals with the grapple and load balers and shredders
- Pile ferrous metal into stockpiles with the magnet
- Keep the processing lanes clear
- Complete a pre-start check each day
- Take care of hydraulic lines whenever an attachment is changed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience on 30-tonne-plus excavators in a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry environment
- Direct, confident experience operating a hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
- Valid NZ Class 1 licence with a WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
- Sharp spatial awareness around active trucks, machinery and ground staff, and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
